A farmer's wife

A farmer's wife, I am not! For we do not have acre's of land, or large amounts of animals. Although there is chicken's out in the yard, and seeds started on the windowsill.

I think I like the idea of being a farmer's wife more than I would like the reality. Especially as this past week I have spent more time with my tissue box than anyone else.

Thankyou weeping cherry tree. Your bloosms are beautiful. But you reak havoc on my sinuses!

 Anyway I have decided to start a new project. A sampler quilt from : "The Farmer's Wife"

The blocks finish at 6" so it's a nice little project to work on for a while. I do have a few complaints about the book. But I will share those for another day. At this point I have 5 blocks done out of 111, so I may be at this for a while. But if you look at mine. You will see a huge difference.

They are bright and colorful. They are more representative of me, a rural/suburban wife, a happy go lucky wife,maybe today!  an urban ... humm, I guess there really isn't a good classification for me and my life. Maybe that's why it's called a sampler?

A seed is planted

Just like a seed all of the potential is there... Spring is coming, and so are the ideas!

grilled food & time with friends,

a time to sew,
a time to play.
Sure do hope that I don't have all of my hope's in one bucket.

Once a year ladies from across the county get together to hand quilt the Fair quilt.  There are some amazing quilters with in the county. Unfortunately they didn't show up for the quilting part. When I arrived there was only about 5 ladies.

During the fair,  each block is donated to the fair board after judging. My block is the crow and the corn. I thought it represented where we live. I put alot of little pieces in there. I don't think I'll do that again. Remind me to keep it simple this year!  

In order to get in some quilting time. I had a take a little boy with me. He got bored waaaaay too quickly. So in order to keep him occupied, he played with the camera on my phone.

All of this color sure does put things under a new light!

Far from Empty

Do you feel a void? As if something is missing. Well if you are a crafter I doubt that is true. For I can think of tons of quilts I would love to fill this quilting hoop with.

I think about it during the day, when a bit of color strikes my inspiration.

I think about making something, anything, when my mind feels cluttered and stressed, from too much of this.

I discuss my crafting obsessions with complete strangers, with friends, and with family. To know me is love me and my crafting! I can't remember when this obsession started. But I know it is completely ingrained in who I am. If you were to come and visit me you would find a crafting magazine in the kitchen, a half pieced idea or thing by the table, a basket with yarn and needles by my chair in the living room.

I've had a wonderful converstations this week with friends about this very subject from the kitchen table to the blogging world. Thankyou Madamme Samm.

Why fill your life up with all of this creative stuff? Well for me it makes me happy. I'm richer in spirt. I'm not winning any prizes, or publishing great things. I'm just doing what I love. And I'm sharing what I love with those around me. As the 16 year old carpenter (once my one time quilter son), Asked if I would make his a quilt for his bed.

There is still creative work and love to be done, here. Maybe creative people change the world from thier house out? What do you think?

Now that the RRCB top is done. It's on to the quilting. I've NEVER sent a quilt out to be quilted before. But I seriously would consider it for this one.

While at the table...

Normally I work on my sewing upstairs in the spare room. Mainly because I can just leave everything where I'm at and come back to it later. It has it's pros and cons. The biggest con, is that while you are upstairs, your away from everyone else. Sometimes it can leave a lot to be desired.

So temporarily I moved downstairs to the kitchen table. While there I was graced with this one's company. Granted I didn't get to work as fast as I possibly could have. Because there was a "Mommy, look" every couple of minutes. But I didn't mind. It was really nice to have company while sewing.

Of course, he probably only hung out with me because the wii is broken. What ever the reason, it was time well spent for the two of us. But I really should clean off the table!

Progress

I'm still working on my RRCB quilt. My progress is slow, as life seems to happen. But I intend on getting to the borders this week. I have to admit that I considered adding a solid mitered corner borders, and calling it done. But wouldn't that be cheating? So as of right now, I'm going to keep going with the original design. If I'm lucky, it might end up on the bed by next winter. As it would turn out this is my spring break week. Although the weather doesn't really confirm it. Yesterday we had a full day of rain, by evening it turned to sleet and overnight SNOW!
As I keep sewing, I'm going to keep an eye on the creek. Which happens to look more like a river about now. As long as we have been here, it has never crossed the bank. The house itself has been here even longer. I'll still just keep an avid eye outside. Especially as we have the run off from this latest mess.
